A Practice Built on Sound Foundations

Mestika Legal was founded in Kuala Lumpur with a clear purpose — to provide the Islamic finance industry with legal advisory that matches the intellectual rigour of Syariah scholarship with practical knowledge of Malaysian financial regulation. The firm began by advising a small number of Islamic banking clients on compliance matters shortly after the implementation of the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013, which fundamentally reshaped how institutions approached Syariah governance.

Over the years, the practice expanded to include sukuk structuring and Islamic capital market advisory, building a record across Wakalah, Mudarabah, and commodity Murabahah sukuk programmes. The firm has worked alongside arrangers, trustees, and rating agencies on issuances that span Malaysia's primary and secondary Islamic debt markets.

Today, Mestika Legal serves banks, takaful operators, corporate treasury teams, and fund managers — each engagement conducted with the same attention to accuracy and care for client interests that has shaped the firm from the beginning.

"Our role is not simply to document what clients want to do — it is to help them understand what is Syariah-sound, what is legally permissible, and what best serves their long-term interests."

How We Maintain Quality Across Every Engagement

Professional Duty of Care

Every instruction is handled under the full professional obligations of the Legal Profession Act 1976. Our advisers carry professional indemnity cover for all practice areas.

Syariah Scholarly Review

Complex structuring matters are reviewed in consultation with recognised Syariah scholars. We do not proceed with documentation that lacks scholarly support for its Syariah basis.

Client Confidentiality

All client matters, documentation, and discussions are treated as strictly confidential in accordance with legal professional privilege and our firm's data handling protocols.

Regulatory Monitoring

We monitor BNM, Securities Commission, and AAOIFI developments on an ongoing basis. Clients in retainer arrangements receive periodic regulatory update briefings.

Document Integrity Standards

Legal documents produced by the firm undergo internal review before delivery. Transaction documents for sukuk issuances are reviewed against precedent libraries and current regulatory requirements.

Continuing Professional Development

All members of the team maintain active CPD obligations and participate in Islamic finance industry forums, including events hosted by AIBIM, MIFC, and the Malaysian Bar.

What Shapes Our Approach

Integrity First

Syariah compliance is not a box-ticking process. We approach each structuring matter with care to ensure the substance — not merely the form — of every transaction reflects Islamic principles. Integrity in our advisory relationships is not negotiable.

Clarity in Communication

Legal and Syariah advice can be dense. We commit to communicating clearly with clients — explaining complex positions, regulatory requirements, and documentation choices in terms that inform rather than confuse.

Respect for Process

Islamic finance mandates require careful sequencing — Syariah endorsement before documentation, regulatory review before execution. We respect these processes and guide clients through them with appropriate diligence at each stage.

Long-Term Perspective

We work to build lasting relationships with our clients. Understanding an institution's structure, objectives, and regulatory history over time allows us to provide advisory that is more contextually relevant and better-attuned to their needs.

Discuss Your Matter With Our Team

We welcome enquiries from institutions at any stage of their Islamic finance journey — from early structuring discussions to regulatory gap analysis or sukuk programme preparation.
